Comes to a Wall

The man came to a wall. The man came to a wall and he did not know how to get over it. He did not know how to get over it or around it. The wall was impassable.

The man touched the wall, and the man found that the wall was smooth. The wall was smooth and strong. The man could not push the wall over. The man tried to push the wall over, but he could not. The wall was too strong.

The man sat at the base of the wall and wondered how he could get to the other side.

Holds a Dying Hand

The man visited his wife’s father. His wife’s father was dying and he had asked for the man to visit him.

The man entered the building where his wife’s father lay dying.

The man asked the girl at the front desk where he could find his wife’s father.

The girl at the front desk told him where he could find his wife’s father.

The man found his wife’s father.

The man found his wife’s father, but he was asleep. The man stood close enough to know that his wife’s father was asleep and not yet dead. But he would be dead in a short time.

The man looked around the place where his wife’s father lay dying, and he wondered if he would die (more…)

Eats a Piece of Bread

The young man took a piece of bread. He took a piece of bread and ate it. He ate the piece of bread and thanked the girl for giving him the bread.

The girl told the young man that her mother had told her to offer him the piece of bread.

The young man told the girl to thank her mother for telling her to offer him the piece of bread.

The girl told the young man he could thank her himself when her mother returned from the place where they prepared food in the place where they lived.

The girl’s mother returned from the place where they prepared food in the place where they lived.

Sets off Alone Together

The boy and the girl held hands.

The boy and the girl held hands as they walked away from the large box in the clearing.

Not many people saw them walk away because most of the people who had woken from their long sleeps were looking for food or were standing in amazement at the wonderful planet they had found themselves on. Those who watched the boy and girl leave to explore the planet watched them for a little while and then they too resumed looking for food and standing in amazement at the wonderful planet they had found themselves on.

The girl asked the boy if he had enough rest.

The boy said he had a short but strange rest.

The girl said how was it strange.

Throws Across the River

The man the boy called grandpa sat beside the river. He sat beside the river, and he thought about what had happened that day. He thought about what had happened that day, and he wondered if he would come to regret it. He didn’t regret anything yet.

The man the boy called grandpa looked at the river. The river flowed slowly. The river was smooth but for small disturbances on the surface where the bugs settled. Now and then a fish would break the surface to take a mouthful of bugs.

The man the boy called grandpa looked at his hands. He looked at his hands and he saw a long hair extending from his sleeve.

Hers. The boy’s mother.

The man the boy called grandpa pulled the hair from his sleeve. He pulled and pulled until the full length of hair dangled from his fingertips.

Does Not Feel Very Old

The old man told his nephew how old he was. The old man said he was sixty-six. The old man said that day was his birthday and he had just turned sixty-six. The old man said he had turned sixty-six, but he did not feel old.

The old man’s nephew said sixty-six was not very old. Not for some people. Not for the old man even though he had always called him an old man.

The old man said the number was not what made an old man old.

The old man’s nephew said the old man was not very old, but he was older than he was, so he called him the old man. He said the old man had been older than him his whole life, and he had always seemed old even when (more…)

Finds a Broken Entrance

Someone had broken into the place where he lived.

The man returned from work one day and found that someone had been inside the place where he lived at the top of the hill. Someone had broken the entrance to the place where he lived.

The man entered the place where he lived at the top of the hill, and he looked around the place where he lived to see if whoever had broken into the place where he lived was still in the place where he lived.

Whoever had broken into the place where he lived was no longer inside the place where the man lived.

The man went outside and walked around the place where he lived to see if whoever had broken into the place where he lived was still outside the place where he lived. The man was sure whoever had broken into the place (more…)
